Tips on how to create a practical and luxe space
When it comes to bathroom lighting, function and safety are always the primary considerations, however aesthetics matter, too. One of the most versatile and used rooms in every home, a bathroom must be multifaceted, switching from a place of practical preening to somewhere of spa-like sanctuary. Here's how...

BALANCE FUNCTION & AESTHETICS
Think about the various times you will be using the space and the moods you want to create - gloomy winter morning, relaxing in the bath. Always factor in dimmers - these must sit outside the bathroom as they are not IP rated - at least for the main circuits, while low level lighting either set into the wall or integrated into bathroom furniture can create ambience and be a guide at night.

MIX UP YOUR LIGHTS
Consider where you actually want the light to fall; not every inch needs to be illuminated. Downlights in showers are invaluable as they give crisp light and with IP65 rating can withstand steam. While wall lights on either side of the basin mirror will provide an even light. Alternatively, choose a directional spot light above your mirror, which is helpful when shaving and applying make-up. Ensure any chosen light meets the IP regulations required, a minimum rating of IP44, and a higher IP65 rating when closer to water.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT BULB
Think about how you want your bathroom to feel. Warm and cosy or bright and light? Allow this to lead the way in choosing the colour temperature of your bulbs. For practical tasks, bulbs should have a high CRI (Colour Render Index). CRI is the degree to which your artificial light represents true daylight, with 100 CRI being the truest form. Our bulbs have the highest available 95-97 CRI, so you will not leave the bathroom with rogue toothpaste on your clothes or shaving cuts.
