Interior designer Sean Symington set out to create something fresh, inviting and quietly unexpected for our Chelsea Flower Show stand this year. At the heart of the design is trellis arch detailing, a subtle nod to the decorative language of the Victorian era and the romance of historic glasshouses.

Pattern and colour play a defining role. Sean has layered textiles from GP & J Baker, including Dotty, his own collaboration with the brand, alongside Tetbury Stripe and Symington Stripe. The blue and green palette feels deliberately unexpected, bringing a sense of lightness and modernity while sitting comfortably within the surrounding planting. “A feeling of freshness is important,” Sean explains. “It draws people in - they won’t want to leave.”

Colour is further enhanced through paints by Edward Bulmer, whose richly nuanced greens provide a natural backdrop for both planting and lighting. Together, these elements create a space that feels immersive yet refined, a contemporary interpretation of Victorian charm, designed to delight, linger in the memory, and celebrate the harmony between interiors, gardens and light.
